Privacy & Cookies
This is a non-commercial hobby site. We only collect your email and username to manage your game accounts, and we use strictly functional cookies to keep you logged in. We do not track you, run analytics, or sell or share your data with anyone. The rest of this page spells out the details.
Who we are
Gnome Cards is a free, non-commercial hobby project run by an individual in Washington State, USA. It lets you play Buck Euchre online and against AI opponents. There are no ads and nothing is for sale.
Information we collect
When you create an account, we store:
- your email address, which is also your username;
- a display name shown to other players at the table and in the lobby;
- your password, stored only as a salted cryptographic hash — we never store or see your actual password; and
- optional two-factor authentication settings, if you choose to enable them.
To keep the service running and to prevent abuse, our servers also process limited technical data such as your IP address (for example, for rate limiting and in routine server logs). We do not use this to build a profile of you or track you across the web.
How we use your information
We use the information above only to:
- create and manage your account and sign you in;
- send you essential account emails — confirming your address, resetting your password, and confirming an email change;
- show your display name to the other players in your game; and
- keep the service secure, reliable, and free of abuse.
Cookies
We use a single, strictly necessary cookie to keep you signed in as you move between pages. It is essential to how the site works.
We do not use advertising, analytics, or cross-site tracking cookies. Because we only use a strictly necessary cookie, there is no cookie-consent banner to click through.
Sharing and third parties
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data for marketing. We rely on a small number of service providers purely to operate the site:
- an email delivery provider, used only to send the account emails described above; and
- a cloud hosting provider (Microsoft Azure), which runs the application and stores its database.
These providers process data on our behalf to keep the service running, not for their own purposes. We may also disclose information if required by law.
Your choices and data retention
You're in control of your account data. From the Account page you can change your email address, display name, and password at any time.
You can also delete your account from the Account page. Deleting your account permanently removes your account data from our database. We keep your account data only for as long as your account exists.
If you have any privacy question or request, contact us at support@gnomecards.com.
Children's privacy
Gnome Cards is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Traffic to and from the site is encrypted in transit (HTTPS), and passwords are stored only as salted hashes. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date below. Significant changes will be reflected here.
